This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.

Kenyan singer Vivian Wambui, who relocated to the United States, has given fans a rare peek at a major project she has been quietly working on back home: a family house under construction in Katani, Machakos County.
The video, shared on her Instagram on Monday, August 17, was filmed on-site and showed Vivian walking viewers through the property with visible excitement.
A temporary fence had been erected around the compound to keep the construction private, and small inset clips showed workers actively laying blockwork as she spoke.

The home is already well underway. Vivian showed off a water storage tank built on the premises, a foundation running about six layers of blocks deep, and quality steel used for the walling.
Large openings have been left throughout the structure to accommodate generous window spaces.
"Our house has so many windows, so many spaces, so we are excited about that. We are so happy with our workers; they are doing a good job," she said during the tour.
A staircase foundation was also visible in the footage, confirming the house will have an upper floor. Vivian was quick to highlight the importance of a solid base for anyone building in the area.
"Katani is swampy and if you don't have a good foundation you will suffer. It gives me so much joy doing a home that I, my kids and partner will be living in," she said.
In her caption alongside the construction walkthrough video, Vivian described the build as part of a broader fresh chapter in her life.
"Hey! Habari ya huku! Thought to share a little update. New life. New home. New beginnings.. Construction is so unhinged because you think you're the boss, but tell me why hesabu za kulipana makes one's heart spin," she wrote.
The video quickly drew warm messages from followers who were delighted by the progress.
