Nairobi - The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued its 24-hour weather forecast covering 47 counties across the country, running from 9pm on Wednesday, August 19, to 9pm on Thursday, August 20.
The forecast outlines expected temperature ranges and general sky conditions for locations spanning the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, Nyanza, and Nairobi.
"Rainfall is expected in some parts of Migori, Homa Bay, Narok, Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, Nyamira, Bomet, Kericho, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kakamega, Siaya, Kisumu, Busia, Kisii, Nyeri and Lamu Embu counties. Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected in some parts of Taita Taveta, Marsabit, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Embu, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Machakos, Makueni, Nairobi, Kajiado and Laikipia Counties," Kenya Met said.
Temperature ranges across monitored counties
Temperatures are set to vary considerably between regions. Nairobi is forecast to record a maximum of 23°C and a minimum of 12°C, while Laikipia and Nakuru are both expected to peak at 26°C, with minimums of 12°C and 14°C respectively.
In Western Kenya, Busia and Kisumu are among the warmest locations on the list, each forecast to reach a maximum of 30°C. Kisumu's overnight low is expected to sit at 19°C, while Busia's minimum is projected at 18°C. Homa Bay and Migori share the same 30°C peak, with lows of 19°C and 17°C respectively.
Kakamega is forecast to reach 29°C during the day, dropping to 15°C at night, while Siaya is expected to record a high of 28°C and a low of 18°C.
In the Rift Valley, Narok and Bomet are both projected to reach 24°C and 23°C respectively, with both counties recording minimums in the low teens. Kericho and Kajiado are forecast to share the lowest minimums on the list at 12°C, with maximums of 25°C and 23°C.
Kisii and Nyamira are expected to reach 25°C, while Bungoma is forecast at a high of 27°C with a minimum of 17°C. Vihiga is projected to record a maximum of 26°C and a minimum of 15°C.
General sky and weather conditions
The department's forecast indicates partly cloudy skies during the morning hours, accompanied by light showers and isolated thunderstorms across the covered regions.
Conditions are expected to improve through the afternoon, with sunny intervals anticipated to replace the earlier cloud cover. By evening, sunny intervals are forecast to return, though a chance of light showers remains through to the end of the forecast period at 9pm on Thursday.
