Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced system maintenance across 11 counties on Thursday, August 20.
The outages will begin at 9am in most regions. KPLC stated that the interruptions are necessary and in line with Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules, which allows periodic interruptions to facilitate maintenance and upgrade of power lines to the network, to connect new customers, or to replace power lines during road construction.
Businesses and customers in the affected regions were urged to plan accordingly.

KPLC employee arrested over alleged KSh 50k bribery
In other news, Kennedy Wambani, a KPLC employee based in Mbale, Vihiga county, was arrested and charged for allegedly demanding a KSh 50,000 bribe.
The incident came to light after God's Vision for Africa reported the allegations to EACC detectives, prompting an investigation.
He was arrested while receiving KSh 20,000, money believed to be part of the bribe. Wambani was arraigned and freed on KSh 200,000 cash bail and a surety of a similar amount.
