Gen Z politician and Bungoma Woman Representative aspirant Agnetta Mwangale has spoken from her hospital bed after sustaining multiple machete injuries during an attack at a Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay.
Mwangale, an ardent supporter of the Linda Mwananchi movement, had travelled to Homa Bay on Sunday, August 12, to attend the political rally alongside Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, James Orengo and other leaders associated with the movement.
In a statement shared on her Facebook page, Mwangale said she was grateful to be alive but remained traumatised by what she described as a horrific experience.
“I’m grateful to be alive, though I am still traumatized by the horrific experience. I sustained panga injuries on my back, waist, legs, and knees. I also lost my personal belongings, including my ID which has been circulating online,” she said.
Mwangale is seeking to contest the Bungoma Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election and has been actively following the movement's rallies.
How did the Homa Bay attack unfold?
According to Mwangale, the vehicle she was travelling in was torched during the confrontation, while her driver sustained serious injuries.
“Our car was torched by armed goons, our driver sustained multiple serious injuries, and tragically one of our security personnel lost his life. My heart and sincere prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult moment,” she said.
She strongly condemned the violence and warned young people against being used by politicians during the election period.
“I strongly condemn the act of goonism, especially as we approach the election period. To my fellow youth, let’s not be manipulated into helping others pursue personal interests at the expense of our lives and future,” Mwangale said.
She also thanked Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga for sending a rescue team to the location where she had sought refuge after the attack.
Mwangale expressed gratitude to the Linda Mwananchi team led by Sifuna, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Babu Owino, Orengo, MP Jack Wamboka, Pauline Njoroge, Reen Nasimiyu Okoth, Faith Norah Lukosi, her campaign team and others who helped secure her safety.

The Bungoma politician also thanked her 'sister', Abigael Gikonyo alias Abbie Zuena, for standing by her following the incident.
“I thank God for my sister Abigael Gikonyo, your strength and resilience are inspiring. This incident has only strengthened our sisterhood; we will walk this journey together,” she said.
Mwangale further clarified that, apart from the physical injuries, she was not sexually assaulted or abused during the incident.
“Lastly, I want to acknowledge the support received through my phone number 0110084589. Please note that, aside from physical injuries, I was not subjected to any sexual assault or abuse,” she said.
How did Natembeya flee from goons in Homa Bay?
Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported that Governor Natembeya and Bumula MP Jack Wamboka were forced to abandon their vehicle after its front-left tyre was pierced during the chaos.
The two leaders sought refuge at a private compound, but armed youths allegedly followed them there and demanded that security guards open the gate.
Natembeya said they eventually jumped over a fence, with Wamboka falling badly, before fleeing through thick bushes in darkness. They later secured a taxi that took them to Kisumu.
