"I'm bleeding": Kenyan man's stepmum collapses, dies days after burying his dad
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
- A Kenyan man has narrated how his stepmother collapsed and died at a funeral, hours after his uncle was buried
- The development plunged Mwaura Mwanya's family into fresh mourning barely a week after his father died.
- In the series of tragic events, Mwaura lost his father, followed by his uncle days later, and now his stepmother
A Kenyan man has spoken out about a devastating period of back-to-back loss after his stepmother collapsed and died at a funeral, just days after his father's passing.
Mwaura Mwanya shared the news in an emotional Facebook post, where he described his grief with three words that said everything: "I am bleeding."
Week of Unrelenting Loss
The tragedy unfolded as the family was already deep in mourning. Shortly after Mwaura's father died, his father's brother also passed away.
The family had gathered to lay that man to rest when Mwaura's stepmother reportedly collapsed at the graveside and died, turning one funeral into two.
"Barely a week after my dad died, his brother died [and] was being buried today. My stepmom collapsed and died at the funeral," Mwaura wrote, the rawness of those words impossible to miss.
The deaths have come in such rapid succession that the family has had little time to process one loss before confronting another.
The Father He Will Never Stop Missing
Only days before sharing news of his stepmother's death, Mwaura had written a moving tribute to his late father, painting a picture of a man who was far more than a parent.
The grieving son described his father as someone who always had an answer, no matter what was brought before him.
"You weren't just a father but a mentor, a teacher and counsellor. Anytime I brought something to you, you had a solution and I wondered how you did it," he wrote.
Mwaura also acknowledged the difficult new reality that grief had handed the family, adding that they now had to learn how to live away from him.
Legacy Carried Forward
In his tribute, Mwaura celebrated the values his father left behind, describing him as a man whose kindness, wisdom and integrity formed the foundation of the home he built.
"You were the greatest man, a pride of our home, our protector," he wrote, adding that those qualities would not disappear with him.
"Dad, you've left but the kindness, wisdom, love, integrity and many more values you instilled in us will forever remain in us."
For Mwaura and his family, those words have taken on a new dimension as they face yet another funeral, mourning yet another person they loved, in a grief that has shown no mercy.
Kakamega Mum Dies After Burying Son
Apart from Mwaura, another family in Kakamega is mourning a series of deaths that have left residents and relatives questioning what life really is.
This is after a mother named Joan Bandi attended her son's burial and delivered a speech at the funeral, bidding him farewell.
Shortly after the ceremony ended, she reportedly collapsed and never regained consciousness, only to be pronounced dead shortly after.
