The British High Commission in Nairobi is recruiting a technical adviser in technology and innovation, offering a monthly base salary of KSh 568,904.86 alongside statutory benefits under Kenyan employment law.
The position, graded at Senior Executive Officer (SEO) level, is a fixed-term 12-month contract set to begin on September 1, 2026. The application window closes on August 21, 2026.
Role and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be embedded within the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA), a state corporation established under the Science, Technology and Innovation Act No. 28 of 2013.
The adviser will focus on translating Kenya's science, technology and innovation policy goals into practical outcomes, with particular emphasis on operationalising the country's innovation cluster framework and strengthening the National Innovation System.
Day-to-day duties include coordinating collaboration between innovators, researchers, start-ups, county governments, industry players and development partners.
The post holder will also support efforts to raise Kenya's Gross Expenditure on Research and Development from approximately 0.78% towards a 2% target of GDP and will contribute to the delivery of the British High Commission's wider Country Business Plan on science, innovation and technology.

Applicants must hold a degree in a relevant discipline such as science, engineering, technology, economics, business or international development and must demonstrate strong knowledge of Kenya's innovation ecosystem.
Desirable attributes include familiarity with innovation hubs, incubators or accelerators, and prior experience supporting science and technology communication in Kenya or East Africa.
