Gem member of parliament Elisha Odhiambo has issued a stark warning to Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna, cautioning him that former president Uhuru Kenyatta is exploiting his political prominence only to discard him ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Odhiambo made the remarks outside St. John's Anglican Church in Ulumbi, Gem constituency, following a Sunday service, drawing on a grim historical parallel to reinforce his point.
"Uhuru and his echelons are fattening Sifuna for roast. I want to remind Sifuna, we have been here long before you. Even Tom Mboya was fattened` and was later killed. History does not betray me," Odhiambo said.
The legislator, a declared supporter of President William Ruto, urged Nyanza Region residents to back the Head of State for a second term in office.
Sifuna's Rising National Profile
Sifuna has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of the Ruto administration, leading the Linda Mwananchi faction and building a national profile that has prompted public speculation about a presidential bid.
During an interview with Citizen TV on July 28, Sifuna said he would not shy away from the responsibility if his faction backed a presidential run.
"If the decision is made, we have a lot of work to do in order to have a viable candidature and campaign, but I'm not one to run away from responsibility. We have to answer the call of our country and generation and if the people feel that this is the best way for us to proceed, we will not say No," he said.
The senator has also clarified that while he works alongside Uhuru within the opposition, the former president does not fund the Linda Mwananchi campaigns.
Crowded Opposition Field
Uhuru has maintained sustained criticism of the Ruto administration, arguing that Kenya requires a change of leadership.
His Jubilee Party deputy leader, Fred Matiangi, remains a central figure in the United Opposition front, though his presidential ambitions face competition from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP leader Martha Karua, and United Green Movement leader David Maraga, all of whom have expressed interest in the presidency.
