The legislator believes that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is fattening Sifuna for slaughter and is staring at a troubling political ending, possibly cutting short his elective leadership aspirations.
"Uhuru and his echelons are fattening Sifuna for roast. I want to remind Sifuna, we have been here long before you. Eve Tom Mboya was fattened by Kikuyus and was later killed. History does not betray me," he said outside St. John’s Anglican Church, Ulumbi in Gem constituency after attending a service.
He maintained that he remains a firm supporter of President William Ruto, urging Nyanza Region residents to their weight behind him to secure a second term.
Mr. Uhuru has recently maintained active criticism of President Ruto’s administration, saying there is a dire need for a change of guard at the nation's helm.
The Jubilee Party leader has been linked to supporting the opposition, as Fred Matiang'i, the party's deputy leader, has remained a key ally in the United Opposition front seeking to edge out President Ruto.
Matiang'i has expressed interest in running for president but his ambition is in limbo since co-opposition dons like Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP party leader Martha Karua and United Green Movement party leader David Maraga also seek to become president.
Edwin Sifuna, leading the Linda Mwananchi faction, has also been propped up for contesting owing to his spiking national prominence as he maintains a stiff campaign against President Ruto.
He once intimated that discussions about his political future have increasingly come from young Kenyans who believe he is capable of taking on greater leadership responsibilities.
The legislator has maintained that he will await the faction's decision on whether to vie for presidency but will maintain political campaigns till then.
"If the decision is made, we have a lot of work to do in order to have a viable candidature and campaign, but I'm not one to run away from responsibility. We have to answer the call of our country and generation and if the people feel that this is the best way for us to proceed, we will not say No," he said during an interview with Citizen TV on July 28, 2026.
He further clarified that his relationship with Mr. Uhuru is solely tied to his role as a leader in the opposition but does not fund the Linda Mwananchi campaigns.
