First Daughter Charlene Ruto is clearly settling comfortably into her new chapter as an engaged woman, weeks after her lavish Koito ceremony with Tanzanian fiancé Isaya Yunge at the family's Intonna Heritage Farm.
Following what appeared to be an overseas vacation, both she and Isaya documented the getaway on their Instagram pages. Charlene was back in Kenya and in the public eye on Saturday night, August. 22. She attended the Miss International Kenya 2026 grand finale at Nairobi National Park alongside her brother, George Kimutai..
Amid the evening's glitz, media wasted no time pulling the first daughter aside to ask about her relationship with her Tanzanian fiancé.
Why Charlene said yes to Isaya
When asked what prompted her to accept his proposal, Charlene was direct: it had nothing to do with where he is from.
"First of all, I don't think I said yes to him because he is Tanzanian. It is the person that he is inside. When I met him, I could tell that he is a man who knows God, who is after God, and for me, that's a big thing that I wanted in a man who I want to spend the rest of my life with," she said.
Faith, she explained, was a non-negotiable quality for her in a life partner. Beyond that, Isaya's intellect and sense of direction also caught her attention.
"He is very intelligent, smart and has a purpose," she added, noting that she herself is driven by purpose and wanted a partner who shares that same grounding.
Charlene did not hold back on expressing just how certain she feels about her choice.
"I really believe he is the one God had kept for me," she added.
Two weeks on from the Koito ceremony, she said the joy of their union had not worn off and that she was still fully absorbing what the milestone meant for her.
The Koito is a traditional ceremony among the Kalenjin community that formally marks the union between two families.
Holding the event at the Ruto family's Intonna Heritage Farm gave it both cultural and personal significance.
