President Yoweri Museveni's daughter Patience Museveni Rwabwogo has been consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop, marking two decades of ministry with a ceremony that drew senior clergy, government officials and hundreds of worshippers.
The ordination took place on Sunday at Covenant Hill in Maya, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of Covenant Nations Church, which Patience founded and leads as senior pastor.
American evangelist Bishop Dr LaDonna Osborn officiated the consecration, supported by local and international clergy.
Museveni's Gift and Shortened Address
President Museveni attended alongside First Lady Janet Museveni and other members of the First Family. In his address, he praised his daughter as a capable religious leader whose work would help grow the church's reach.
He also used the occasion to express gratitude for his wife's recovery from illness, acknowledging the medical personnel and their children, Muhoozi, Natasha, Patience and Diana, for their role in caring for her.
"I thank God for Maama's recovery, and I salute the medical staff who supported her, as well as our children who worked alongside them in caring for her. I also thank God for Patience becoming a Bishop," he said.
To mark the occasion, Museveni presented his daughter with 50 cows, citing her commitment, discipline and dedication to serving Christ. He then brought his remarks to an abrupt close, explaining that he did not wish to keep Janet, who was still recuperating, at the event any longer than necessary.
"I would have said more, but Mama has sat for very long. I want to thank everybody. Now, in our tradition, when somebody does something good, we give him or her gifts. I give Patience 50 cows. And the cows are from Mama and from myself. Thank you very much," Museveni said.
Janet Museveni and Pastor Adeboye Speak
First Lady Janet Museveni addressed the congregation and offered thanks for what she described as a miraculous recovery, framing 2026 as a defining year in her faith.
"2026 is forever marked as the year you delivered my own life from the very jaws of death. When the enemy came in like a flood, you lifted a standard against him," she said, adding that she credited her survival to the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.
Nigerian preacher Pastor Enoch Adeboye, whom Patience regards as her spiritual father, delivered the sermon. He linked Christian faith with material prosperity and encouraged the congregation not to equate godliness with poverty.
"You can make it to heaven and still become rich along the way; you do not have to die poor," Adeboye said. "If you want to know the truth about what I have said, ask President Museveni. He does not want Ugandans to remain poor."
Adeboye also used his time at the pulpit to pray that Africa would reduce its reliance on foreign borrowing.
