Trans Nzoia Teen Arrested in Fatal Attack on Elderly Woman, Linked to Second Killing
DCI probes heinous crimes against seniors as suspect faces multiple allegations across Western Kenya counties.
Authorities in Trans Nzoia County have taken an 18-year-old man into custody in connection with the fatal assault of an 84-year-old woman. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrest of Ezekiel Nyongesa Barasa, who is suspected of a heinous crime that has sent shockwaves through the Kiminini community.
The victim, identified as Florence Khosa, suffered grievous injuries during the attack. Despite immediate medical attention at Cheranganyi Nursing Home, where she was admitted following the incident, Ms. Khosa tragically succumbed to her wounds while undergoing treatment, according to DCI reports.
Following Ms. Khosa's death, investigators initiated a determined search for Barasa, who had reportedly gone into hiding. Persistent investigative efforts and police operations eventually led detectives to his location, and he was apprehended. Subsequently, witnesses positively identified him during an identification parade, solidifying the case against him.
As the investigation progressed, a disturbing new lead emerged, allegedly connecting Barasa to the killing of an 86-year-old woman in Tongaren, Bungoma County. Furthermore, preliminary findings indicate that the 84-year-old Ms. Khosa may have been subjected to sexual assault prior to her death, adding another layer of horror to the allegations.
DCI detectives are currently conducting comprehensive forensic examinations and exploring all critical investigative avenues to reconstruct the sequence of events and establish the full circumstances surrounding these alleged offences. The gravity of these crimes, particularly against vulnerable elderly women, underscores significant concerns about community safety in parts of Western Kenya and the DCI's commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice.
Ezekiel Nyongesa Barasa remains in police custody as detectives meticulously gather and piece together evidence ahead of his formal arraignment in court, according to information initially reported by Kahawa Tungu.
