This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
- First Lady Rachel Ruto publicly celebrated the traditional pre-wedding ceremony of Brian, widely known as her nephew, held in Kapsabet

- Rachel used the occasion to send a message to young Kenyans about commitment and building strong families
Kenya's first family is barely catching a breath between wedding celebrations.
Just weeks after First Daughter Charlene Ruto was betrothed to her Tanzanian fiancé, Isaya Yunge, the family was back in their finest cultural attire for yet another milestone, this time for Brian and Mercy's traditional pre-wedding ceremony held in Kapsabet on Saturday, 22 August.
Inside Brian and Mercy's pre-wedding
Brian, widely known as Rachel's nephew, made a memorable entrance alongside his bride-to-be, the two holding hands as they walked into their traditional ceremony.
He turned heads in custom forest-green contemporary African attire, the outfit detailed with intricate gold-patterned embroidery running along the front vest and collar panel.
He topped the look with a structured dark fedora-style hat and carried a walking stick, an accessory associated with leadership and status at cultural ceremonies.
Mercy matched the occasion beautifully in a modern white wedding gown featuring a deep V-neckline outlined with fine dark-blue piping.
Layered across the gown was a vibrant leso wrap in bold shades of yellow, pink and black, with abstract sunburst and geometric floral patterns.
A turquoise-blue fabric band cinched her waist as a sash over the wrap. Her look was finished with a delicate gold pendant necklace, matching drop earrings, and a silver-toned beaded hairband woven into her braided updo.
What did Rachel tell young couples?
Rachel later took to X to congratulate the couple and share a broader message with young Kenyans.
"Congratulations to Brian and Mercy on your pre-wedding ceremony held today in Kapsabet. Marriage is a beautiful journey founded on love, commitment, friendship and shared purpose. It is encouraging to see young people choosing to honour their relationships and take intentional steps towards building strong and lasting families," she wrote.
She added:
"I encourage more young people to embrace commitment and formalise their unions, recognising that strong marriages and stable families are an important foundation for strong communities and a thriving nation."

Charlene Ruto's Koito vs Ngina Kenyatta's Ruracio
TUKO.co.ke also highlighted key details from Charlene's recent Koito, a vibrant and highly publicised cultural ceremony that contrasted sharply with Ngina Kenyatta's more private ruracio.
Charlene's ceremony also drew attention to the pressures that come with being part of Kenya's first family, particularly after she faced a fashion emergency just hours before the event.
