KCB storm Driftwood 7s quarters unbeaten

KCB opened their campaign with a commanding 22-5 victory over Kisumu RFC before edging Uganda Emerging 7s 12-7 in their second match. They completed the pool stage with a convincing 29-10 win over KU Black Blad to book their place in Sunday’s quarterfinals.
Second-placed Kabras Sugar also went unbeaten, cruising past hosts Mombasa Sports Club Rugby 43-0 before registering a 12-0 victory over Nondescripts RFC. They were, however, held to a 17-17 draw by Kenya Harlequins in their final pool match.
Harlequins, who sit third in the overall National 7s Circuit standings, endured a difficult campaign, losing 5-17 to Nondescripts and 17-22 to Mombasa Sports Club before drawing with Kabras.
NYS Spades also made history, reaching their maiden National 7s Circuit Division One quarterfinal after an impressive Pool D campaign.
The Spades opened with a 5-5 draw against Mwamba RFC before producing one of the day’s biggest upsets, defeating Strathmore Leos 15-12. They sealed qualification with a narrow 7-5 win over MMUST Rugby.
Mwamba also advanced to the quarterfinals from Pool D after Strathmore and MMUST suffered defeats.
In Pool A, Kabras RFC continued their impressive run, finishing unbeaten to top the group and qualify alongside Nondescripts, who bounced back from their disappointing Kabeberi outing to finish second.
Menengai Oilers dominated Pool C, winning all three matches. They began with a 14-7 victory over Nakuru RFC, thrashed hosts Kilifi RFC 34-5 and completed the group stage with a 31-5 win over Daystar Falcons.
Daystar nevertheless secured their place in the last eight after earlier victories over Nakuru and Kilifi.
KCB Rugby and invitees Uganda Emerging 7s completed the quarterfinal line-up from Pool B.
The quarterfinals and remaining knockout matches will be played on Sunday.
