Former High Court judge Justice Joseph Mbalu Mutava has died after reportedly falling ill suddenly on Friday night, August 21.
Mutava was being taken to hospital in Makindu after he developed complications, but he died before receiving medical attention.
His death was confirmed by former Machakos senator and Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) commissioner Johnson Muthama, who described the former judge as a long-time family friend.
Muthama mourned Mutava while extending his condolences to the judge’s wife, Kibwezi East MP Jessica Nduku Mbalu.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my long-time family friend, former High Court judge Justice Joseph Mbalu Mutava, husband to Kibwezi East MP Hon. Jessica Nduku Mbalu,” Muthama said.
“On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to our dear friend, Hon. Jessica Mbalu, on the painful loss of your beloved husband. May God comfort you, your family and loved ones during this difficult time, and grant you strength to bear this great loss.”
Mutava reportedly well before sudden illness
Mutava had reportedly attended a burial ceremony earlier on Friday and was said to have been in good health at the time.
His condition later changed suddenly that night, prompting efforts to rush him to hospital in Makindu.
The circumstances surrounding his sudden illness and death had not immediately been disclosed.
Mutava previously served as a judge of the High Court before his death. He was married to Jessica Nduku Mbalu, who represents Kibwezi East Constituency in the National Assembly.
