Edwin Sifuna Goes After President Ruto Over SHA
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has dared President William Ruto to publically swear by the Bible that Kenyans no longer hold harambees to meet medical bills.
Speaking in Kakamega County on Friday, August 21, Sifuna claimed that Ruto lied when he claimed that the Social Health Authority (SHA), which provided medical cover for Kenyans, was working.
He called out the President for the impromptu call he made to the Karen Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Juliet Kigonyo, just to prove that SHA was working, yet many Kenyans had not benefitted from the insurance scheme.
Sifuna referred to Ruto's past alter-calling, and challenged him to swear by the holy book if he really believed that SHA was working.
"You used to be an evangelist. I want you to hold the Bible and declare that harambees meant to raise funds for hospital bills have stopped across the country.

"Just the other day, we were contributing money to remove bodies of deceased persons which had been held at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital because of unpaid bills," he remarked.
The Nairobi Senator asked the Head of State to stop lying to Kenyans, adding that the electorate had already known his modus operandi.
"If lying is your plan, ours is to send you home because you are the biggest problem in this country. We will tell the people the truth and revert the country to its democratic path," he declared.
Sifuna also broke the silence about the Homa Bay attack, terming it a drop in the ocean in comparison to what he experienced while standing by the late Raila Odinga's side.
He recounted how his vehicle came under gunfire while the Azimio la Umoja was conducting protests against the cost of living in 2023.
The ex-ODM Secretary General further promised that the Linda Mwananchi government would fix the dusty road, which went viral during their Homa Bay tour.
His sentiments came a day after Ruto reiterated that SHA was fully functional and that more than 30 million Kenyans had benefitted from it.
The President confirmed that under the new scheme, Kenyans have access to more medical benefits, while hospitals were reimbursed on time.
