- Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang hinted during the funeral that Sifuna should take a second wife

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna publicly rejected a suggestion that he take a second wife while addressing mourners at the funeral of Gloria Khalwale, the third wife of former senator Boni Khalwale, on August 21, 2026.
The moment arose after Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang made remarks during the funeral proceedings that appeared to encourage Sifuna to consider adding another wife.
Rather than letting the comment pass, Sifuna responded directly from the podium, shutting down the idea in front of the large gathering.
Sifuna's Response to Kajwang
Speaking candidly to the crowd, Sifuna accused Kajwang of attempting to destabilise his household with the suggestion.
"Nataka ni confirm hapa mheshimiwa Kajwang wewe unataka kunivunjia nyumba. Wewe unajua, Kajwang hajui nimeoa msichana Mshitsetse. Na washitsetse wanajiita wakulusava. Wanasemanga ukiongeza mwengine uongozi inapotea. So wewe hio maombi umeleta hapa, usiingize jina yangu hapo ndani. Kama unataka kutoka na Favia na Olivya wewe jitetee tu bila mimi," Sifuna said.
In those remarks, the senator explained that his wife belongs to the Mshitsetse community, whose members refer to themselves as Wakulusava.
According to him, a belief held within that community is that a man loses his leadership standing once he brings in an additional wife.
On that basis, Sifuna made clear that Kajwang's prayer for him to marry again was one he wanted no part of, and he urged the Homa Bay senator to face his own domestic affairs without dragging him into the matter.
Funeral of Gloria Khalwale
The exchange took place at the burial of Gloria Khalwale, the third wife of Kakamega politician Boni Khalwale.
The event drew some politicians, and the atmosphere at the podium at times took on the informal, conversational tone that is common at large community funeral gatherings in western Kenya, where speakers frequently address personal and family matters before the crowd.
Sifuna's firm and humorous rejection of Kajwang's remarks quickly drew attention online after footage of the speech circulated on YouTube through content creator Faraj Raj.
