Koskei calls for the church to shun divisive politics
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
The Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, has called upon religious leaders to shun divisive politics and deter political leaders from using the church to sow seeds of discord in the country.
Koskey implored the church to instead engage in ethical and constructive criticism of the political leadership, saying the church has an important role to play in shaping good governance and responsible leadership.
Speaking at Segemik Jerusalem Seventh-day Adventist Church in Olbutyo, Koskei urged religious leaders to use their influence to promote constructive dialogue and encourage leaders to serve the interests of the people.
He observed that the church had the cardinal responsibility of preaching peace, love, and harmony in the country besides shepherding the public in upholding justice.
The Head of Public Service took the opportunity to highlight several government projects undertaken in Chepalungu, including the development of Kipchamba Stadium, the establishment of Sigor University, and the construction and improvement of markets at Chebunyo and Kapkwen.
Koskei mentioned the ongoing road infrastructure projects, including the Kygong–Sigor–Chebunyo road and the Kapkwen–Olbutyo–Siongiroi road, saying such investments are part of the government’s efforts to improve connectivity and stimulate economic development in the region.
He added that such projects were being implemented by the Kenya Kwanza government in all the 47 counties, without any favour or discrimination whatsoever.
Koskei called on Kenyans from all sectors to actively participate in the ongoing national conversation on ‘beyond vision 2030’, noting that the people should be at the center of determining the country’s development agenda.
“Everyone must participate in this conversation so that we can come up with the best plan for Kenya. The people are the ones to drive the agenda,” Koskei said.
He particularly challenged the youth to take a leading role in shaping the country’s future by presenting recommendations that would inform strategies and policies that directly affect them.
Koskei further encouraged young people to participate actively in leadership, including seeking elective positions, saying their involvement would enable them to contribute meaningfully to governance and provide effective oversight of the country’s development agenda.
He said the success of any national strategy depends on the active participation of citizens, urging Kenyans to embrace dialogue and work together towards a better future.
