- Gachagua said his US trip will focus on political strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election
Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has announced when he will conclude his extensive political consultations with Kenyans at his Wamunyoro residence as he prepares for the next phase of his 2027 strategy.
Gachagua said the consultations, which have brought delegations from different parts of the country to his rural home in Nyeri county, will officially come to an end on Monday, August 24.
He began the initiative after announcing in June that he would withdraw from public political rallies for 45 days and instead focus on consultations with supporters, political leaders, professionals, clergy, elders and other opinion shapers.
At the time, Gachagua said the consultations were primarily intended to help build consensus around a single opposition presidential candidate who could challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. He also maintained that he remained eligible to contest for the presidency if the opposition formula favoured him.
The former deputy president has since hosted delegations from various regions and political leaders at Wamunyoro, with the meetings focusing on the country's political direction and efforts to build a united opposition front.
When will Gachagua end the consultations?
According to his itinerary, Gachagua will continue with political engagements over the coming days before winding up the Wamunyoro consultations.
On Friday, August 21, he is scheduled to visit Emurua Dikirr constituency, where he has been invited by Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Vincent Rotich.
Rotich finished second in the Emurua Dikirr by-election behind UDA's David Kipsang Keter.
Gachagua will then travel to Embu county on Saturday before attending a church service in Karatina on Sunday. He is expected to proceed to Kirinyaga later that day.
On Monday, August 24, he plans to host the final batch of delegations at Wamunyoro, formally bringing the consultation programme to a close.

On Wednesday, August 26, Gachagua is scheduled to hold a series of rallies in Kikuyu before travelling to the United States later that evening.
What will Gachagua do in the US?
Gachagua has made it clear that his planned trip to the United States will not be a holiday.
He said he intends to use the trip to continue working on his political strategy and efforts to build an opposition movement capable of defeating Ruto in 2027.
“I will close down this place and fold the tents before I go to America. Even in America, I am going to work, I am not going for a holiday. I want you to pray for my journey. Will you?” Gachagua said.
The former deputy president said he had already established working relationships with many Kenyans and was now making arrangements to ensure the opposition defeats the incumbent in the 2027 General Election.
