- What Linda did not know was that Mercy had quietly fallen behind on her rent, adding an unexpected twist to the kind gesture
Kenyan YouTuber and brand influencer Milly Chebby has lit up social media with yet another heartwarming moment involving her nanny, Mercy, after a generous fan living abroad stepped in to ease the household worker's financial struggles.
The whole thing started when Milly and her husband, content creator Terence Creative, paid Mercy's children's school fees for Term 3. That act of kindness, shared publicly, set off a chain reaction that nobody quite expected.
How did Milly and her fan help her nanny?
After watching the school fees video, one of Milly's followers, a woman named Linda based abroad, reached out to say she wanted to do something for Mercy as well.
Linda's offer was remarkable: she would cover Mercy's rent for the next six months.
There was just one detail Linda was not aware of. Mercy had already fallen behind on her rent, carrying arrears of KSh 4,500.
A portion of Linda's contribution went towards clearing that outstanding debt, with the remaining months' rent set to follow.
Milly and Terence filmed the moment they broke the news to Mercy, capturing her jumping up and down, visibly overwhelmed with joy.
Milly then called Mercy's landlord directly and sent the payment, explaining exactly what it was for.
"After sharing her story, one of you reached out to me and said, 'I want to do something for Mercy,'" Milly wrote in her post. "Mercy had fallen behind on her rent and had a debt of 4,500. This amazing person offered to pay her rent for 6 months. They immediately paid 2 months' rent. God bless my Geng Geng. To the beautiful soul who reached out and made this possible, asante sana, Linda. May your kindness come back to you a hundredfold."
How did Mercy react to the kind gesture?
The moment the news sank in, Mercy found it difficult to contain her emotions, fighting back tears as she tried to express her gratitude.
Milly and her children gathered around her in a warm embrace, clearly moved by how deeply the surprise had affected her.
Milly also used the moment to encourage her followers to join a broader initiative to support children in Mercy's community with school fees and meals, sharing an M-Pesa number for those who wished to contribute.
