- Fresh attention on the compound follows the death of his third wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, who collapsed at the family home on Saturday, August 15
Fresh footage of Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale's family compound in Malinya, Ikolomani Constituency, has sent Kenyans into a frenzy after revealing a detail many had not seen before: the senator's own private residence, tucked away separately from the homes he built for his wives.
The video, which has been circulating online, shows a large bungalow with a cream exterior and red roofing tiles.
Its striking circular design gives it an almost cathedral-like quality, prompting the person filming to describe it as a "king's mansion."
How Khalwale designed his family compound
The Malinya homestead is no ordinary home. Khalwale built individual bungalows for each of his four wives within the same compound, giving every household its own distinct space while keeping the broader family unit together under one estate.
What sets the compound apart further is that the senator maintains a completely separate residence of his own, away from all four wives' houses.
He reportedly uses this space as a personal retreat, a place to reflect and enjoy privacy. His children are welcome to visit, but the wives do not reside there.
The arrangement means that whenever Khalwale wishes to spend time with one of his wives, he simply walks from his personal residence to the relevant bungalow.
The entire compound functions less like a single home and more like a small, self-contained neighbourhood.
Did Khalwale's wife die?
The renewed public interest in the estate comes against the backdrop of heartbreak for the Khalwale family.
His third wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, died on Saturday, August 15, 2026, after reportedly collapsing at the family home.
The loss is not the first tragedy to strike within these walls. Khalwale's first wife, Adelaide Shikanga Khalwale, also passed away suddenly in October 2019.
The eerie coincidence that both deaths occurred on Saturday mornings has added a sombre layer to the public conversation around the Malinya home.
Khalwale is a father to 17 children, and his decision to structure his polygamous household the way he has has long been cited as a deliberate effort to maintain peace and fairness within such a large family.
Each wife having her own space, and the senator having his own in turn, appears to be central to how the household operates.
The latest video has given Kenyans a rare and closer look at the senator's personal living quarters and the distinctive architecture that makes the estate stand out in Ikolomani.
