- Neighbours told local media the couple had spent the day together looking happy, even visiting a shop to pick up a phone hours before their deaths
- The man allegedly recorded a video before the incident, claiming his parents did not support his relationship with the woman
A couple whose love appeared intact to everyone around them were found dead under deeply troubling circumstances in Wikase village, Gachuriri Location, Mbeti South.
The deceased were identified as a 35-year-old man and his 24-year-old wife, aged 24. Preliminary reports indicate the woman is suspected to have died in a domestic violence incident involving her husband.
The man was subsequently found dead in circumstances that authorities have yet to fully explain. The woman's body was discovered lying beneath a mango tree.
What Neighbours Observed Before the Tragedy
Those who lived near the couple expressed disbelief, saying nothing in the pair's behaviour that day had hinted at what was to come. A farm worker discovered the bodies and immediately alerted both the community and the authorities.
"He even talked with his family, but he did not tell them that anything was wrong. So this is a real shock to all of us," a neighbour told Citizen TV.
Another community member recounted how the two had spent the day together in apparent harmony, making a routine errand run before the tragedy unfolded.
"They spent the day together as a couple, and even went to pick up a phone. They spent the day looking in love. We have found their shoes a few metres from here, then their bodies here," the neighbour noted.
Video Recorded Before the Deaths
Before the incident, the man is believed to have recorded a video in which he alleged that his parents neither loved him nor approved of his relationship with his wife. Despite this, he reportedly spoke with his family that same day without raising any alarm, leaving those close to him stunned.
A woman in the community, responding to the tragedy, urged couples experiencing difficulties to address their differences peacefully and to seek help whenever they feel overwhelmed rather than resorting to violence.
