A Bomet College of Accountancy student identified as Sonia died on the night of Tuesday, August 19, 2026, just hours after a family friend had met her in good spirits following a funeral in the area.
Kenda Vin, who shared the news on Facebook, revealed that he had attended the burial of retired teacher Johnson Chumo the previous day.
After the service, a friend named Chero Koskei walked with him part of the way home, and along the route, the two ran into Kiprotich Kdf Yegon's mother, his aunt Joyce, and his sister Sonia.
The group paused to catch up before going their separate ways.

That same night, Sonia began complaining of severe chest pains. Her brother Kiprotich immediately rushed her to Texacholes Chebole for emergency care, but her condition continued to deteriorate rapidly.
In a desperate attempt to save her life, Kiprotich drove her towards St Claire Kaplong, reportedly a facility better equipped to handle her condition. Sonia did not make it, passing away before the vehicle reached the hospital.
Her body was subsequently taken to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary for preservation as the family began making arrangements for her funeral.
