Mount Kenya University has issued an urgent notice summoning all Distance and Institution-Based Electronic Learning (DIBEL) students to a mandatory training session on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
The session is designed to equip students with the skills needed to navigate the university's new student portal, with a particular focus on the unit registration process.
Students who cannot attend in person can participate remotely through a link distributed in the university's official communication.
What the new student portal offers
The Mount Kenya University student portal consolidates a wide range of academic and administrative functions into a single digital platform.
Through it, students can register for units each semester, access timetables and examination schedules, check results and fee statements, review payment history, select examination centres, update personal information, evaluate lecturers online, download examination cards, submit service requests, and complete graduation clearance and attachment registration.
DIBEL and virtual students access their dedicated portal at distance.mku.ac.ke, while those enrolled in e-learning programmes use a separate platform at elearning.mku.ac.ke.
About the DIBEL programme
The DIBEL programme is structured as a blended learning model tailored specifically for practising classroom teachers and school administrators seeking to advance their qualifications without stepping away from their professional duties.
Under the model, students attend face-to-face sessions during school holidays and transition to online learning while schools are in session.
The split is weighted at 30% face-to-face interaction and 70% online delivery through the university's digital platform.
The university has previously hosted orientation sessions for DIBEL students, during which technical support teams guided learners in accessing course materials, joining online discussions, and submitting assignments through the e-learning system.
Mount Kenya University continues to develop its digital education infrastructure through platforms such as UniRP, which the institution says improves efficiency in academic processes and broadens access to student services.
The university stated that students who require additional support after the session can access tutorials through the student support centre section of the portal or reach out to the academic support services team directly.
