A woman has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over allegations of fraudulently acquiring land belonging to a deceased man's estate in Juja Farm, Kiambu County.
Agnes Wairimu Gachanja was taken into custody on August 19, 2026, in Ruiru, where she had appeared for a defence hearing in a separate land fraud matter also being handled by the Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU).
How the fraud was uncovered
The case was initiated by two siblings acting as co-administrators of their father's estate following his death in 2008.
During a routine search at the Thika Land Registry as part of the succession process, they discovered that a parcel of land measuring approximately 0.0825 hectares in Juja Farm had been transferred to an unknown party without their consent or knowledge.
LFIU detectives subsequently established that the same plot had been sold for KSh 800,000. Investigators compiled a duplicate police case file, which was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) upon conclusion of the inquiry.
Charges and court appearance
The ODPP reviewed the file and agreed with the investigating officer's recommendation that Gachanja face three charges: conspiracy to defraud, uttering false documents, and intermeddling with the property of a deceased person.
Gachanja was processed and scheduled to appear before the Ruiru Law Courts on August 20, 2026, to answer to the charges.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to pursuing individuals suspected of unlawfully seizing, transferring, or disposing of properties belonging to deceased estates, warning that those found guilty would be brought to justice.
