Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has become part of Liverpool FC's ownership structure after his investment vehicle K5 Sports joined a consortium that acquired a minority stake in the Premier League club from Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
The consortium, named 1892 Holdings after Liverpool's founding year, reportedly secured approximately 30% of the club in a transaction valued at around KSh 272 billion. The deal places Liverpool's total valuation at between KSh 913 billion and KSh 965 billion.
Inside Jeff Bezos' Liverpool deal
Reports indicate that Bezos committed more than KSh 129.5 billion of his own money through K5 Sports, though the precise figure has not been officially confirmed and should be treated as an attribution to reports rather than a verified disclosure.
Amit Bhatia is leading the 1892 Holdings consortium and will assume the role of Liverpool's vice-chairman.
Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook, is also among the investors, alongside Mittal family interests and existing Liverpool shareholders.
Bezos will not hold a direct board seat; instead, K5 Sports founder Bryan Baum will represent his interests on the club's expanded board.
FSG retains majority ownership and continues to hold operational control of Liverpool, meaning Bezos is not taking over the club at this stage.
What the investment means for Liverpool
The transaction is structured as an ownership deal between FSG and the incoming investors rather than a direct injection of funds for player recruitment.
Liverpool remains subject to Premier League financial regulations, including squad-cost restrictions, which means the club cannot treat this as a transfer budget.
The reported terms of the agreement do, however, grant 1892 Holdings an option to pursue a controlling stake within 12 months, leaving open the possibility of a more significant ownership change in the near future.
Bezos's involvement gives him exposure to one of world football's most commercially valuable clubs without requiring him to manage its day-to-day operations.
