A Kakamega family is mourning after a Form Three student was allegedly killed by his Form Four schoolmate and friend, with the two boys reportedly fighting over a girl.
Both students attended Friends School Kongoni in Likuyani.
According to a report by E-TEN shared on Facebook on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the suspect allegedly drew the deceased away from his home in Makokha Village under false pretences before carrying out the attack.
Form Three student struck with machete
The suspect reportedly led his schoolmate toward Marakaru Village, where he allegedly struck him with a machete, fatally wounding him.
The motive behind the attack is believed to centre on a dispute over a girl the two friends reportedly both had feelings for.
The killing has left the victim's family devastated, as the deceased lost his life at the hands of someone he had considered a friend and a fellow student.
The grandmother of the deceased student recounted his last words before he turned his head and breathed his last saying he said he was dying because of a girl.

News of the killing spread rapidly through the local community, triggering an immediate and angry response from residents.
A group of locals descended on the suspect's family home and set it ablaze, also destroying property on the premises in what appears to have been a retaliatory act.
The incident has sent shock through the Likuyani community, raising concerns about conflict among young people and the tragic consequences that can arise from disputes that begin outside the classroom.
