Lawyer Angela
Mulwa was on Thursday evening re-arrested by Directorate of Criminal
Investigations (DCI) homicide detectives, just barely after securing her
release on a Ksh.1 million cash bail.
Mulwa is now set
to be arraigned on Friday in connection with the murder of Dr. Victoria Mutiso,
her lawyer Danstan Omari and the DCI homicide team confirmed.
Her re-arrest came
shortly after she was released on bond alongside Nelson Masiga in the case
involving the alleged theft of a Range Rover from a disputed 21-acre parcel of
land in Mlolongo, which has been linked to Dr. Mutiso's murder probe.
Mavoko Senior
Resident Magistrate Lilian Kwamboka had declined an application by the
prosecution to detain Mulwa and Masiga for a further seven days to allow
investigators to complete their investigations.
The two were
arrested on August 2 after the Range Rover was recovered at one of Mulwa's
properties in Karen. They had subsequently been held for 14 days.
Mulwa later
applied to have her bond terms reviewed to allow her to secure her release on
cash bail, arguing that members of her immediate family were also in police
custody in connection with the murder investigation and were therefore unable
to assist in processing the bond.
The prosecution
had opposed the application, citing, among other issues, the value of the
disputed property, which it said was worth more than Ksh.900 million.
While releasing
the suspects, Magistrate Kwamboka directed that each pay a bond of Ksh.1
million with a surety of a similar amount and surrender their passports and
other travel documents with the court.
Dr. Mutiso was
shot dead on July 29 during her morning commute in Nairobi's Upper Hill area
after the cab she was travelling in was reportedly blocked by a black Toyota
Prado at the junction of Mbagathi Link Road and Mawenzi Road.
Gunmen on a
motorcycle allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, fatally injuring her. She was
rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
