500-Bed Complex at Nyandarua’s JM Kariuki Hospital Nears Completion [Photos]

Construction of a 500-bed capacity hospital complex at JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, is nearing completion.

In a statement on Saturday, August 15, Governor Kiarie Badilisha said the Mashujaa Complex is being developed through a partnership between the Nyandarua County Government and the national government through the Ministry of Defence.

"Construction of the 500-bed capacity Mashujaa Complex at JM Kariuki Memorial Hospital, Olkalou, is nearing completion through the collaboration of Nyandarua County Government and the national government through the ministry of defense," he wrote.

Badilisha said the county had already invested more than Ksh700 million in the project before the national government joined the construction effort.

"Before the national government came in, we had spent over Ksh700 million to fund its construction from scratch," he added.

Badilisha noted that the project was initially conceptualized during the administration of former Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka.

He described its continuation as evidence that government projects can be sustained across different administrations.

"The construction of this critical facility, whose design was conceptualized during H.E Governor Daniel Waithaka's administration, is a demonstrable proof of perpetuity of government," he further said.

Badilisha further said completing projects started by previous administrations demonstrates political maturity and responsible management of public finances.

"It's also a demonstration of political maturity and fiscal discipline to complete projects that were initiated by predecessors instead of abandoning them halfway and starting others for the same purpose," he noted.

Badilisha said the completion of the Mashujaa Complex would give Nyandarua its first fully established Level-5 healthcare facility.

"Once complete, Nyandarua County is set to have its first real Level-5 facility; a major boost for our healthcare sector and a win for the people of Nyandarua," he concluded.

This comes days after Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo issued an update on the ongoing expansion of Kenneth Matiba Hospital in Murang'a County.

In a statement on Thursday, August 13, he said the hospital is being upgraded from a 20-bed facility to a modern 100-bed Level 4 referral hospital.

Omollo noted that the facility will be equipped with a trauma centre, doctors' plaza, specialized clinics and expanded inpatient wards.

"The upgrade will expand the hospital from a 20-bed facility to a modern 100-bed Level 4 referral hospital, complete with a trauma centre, doctors' plaza, specialised clinics and expanded inpatient wards," he wrote.

According to Omollo, the Kenneth Matiba Hospital will operate round the clock once completed.

"The hospital will operate round the clock, providing comprehensive specialised healthcare and easing pressure on neighbouring referral facilities," he added.

Further, Omollo said the expansion of the facility demonstrates the government’s commitment to advancing Universal Health Coverage while honoring the enduring legacy of Kenneth Matiba.

"The ongoing expansion of Kenneth Matiba Hospital demonstrates this commitment while honouring the enduring legacy of Kenneth Matiba, whose profound sacrifices for Kenya's democracy and visionary public leadership continue to inspire the nation," he further said.
