Government releases Ksh18.51B capitation for term three

All basic education institutions have received capitation to support operations and learning for Term 3 across the country.

This follows the disbursement of Ksh18.51 billion by government as schools opened Monday.

“Term 3 of the 2026 school year has commenced across the country, with pre-primary, primary, junior and senior schools reopening. The Government has released Ksh18,508,271,486.60 billion in capitation to support operations and learning in public basic education institutions,” said CS Ogamba.

In a statement, Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary noted that Ksh18.51 billion disbursed covers learners in pre-primary, primary, junior and senior schools.

Of the total amount, Ksh 1,401,089,978.50 has been allocated to Free Primary Education, while Ksh 6,143,719,839.60 will support Free Day Junior School Education.

Free Day Secondary Education has been allocated 10,963,461,668.50.

The CS reaffirmed government’s commitment to fulfil its duty to learners and educational institutions, in line with Article 53(1)(b) of the Constitution that entitles every child to free and compulsory basic education.

Ogamba further directed school heads and principals to ensure prudent use of public resources entrusted to their care for the benefit of learners.

He also warned school administrators against imposing unauthorised levies, saying the Ministry would take firm action against any verified cases of misappropriation of resources.

“As a Ministry, we will deal firmly with any verified cases of misappropriation of resources and the imposition of unauthorised levies, CS Ogamba warned.
