FKF condemns use of tear gas during FKF Super Cup match - Kahawatungu

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has condemned acts of violence, disorder and hooliganism witnessed after Sunday’s FKF Super Cup match between Gor Mahia and Tusker FC at Nyayo National Stadium.

In a statement issued on Sunday, FKF said there was no place for violence, destruction of property, intimidation or any conduct that puts the safety of players, journalists, officials, fans, security personnel and the public at risk.

“FKF is also concerned by the use of tear gas and other crowd-control measures during the incident,” the federation said.

The federation said security agencies have a responsibility to maintain order but urged them to exercise restraint when handling crowds.

“While security agencies have a responsibility to maintain order, such measures must be exercised with restraint, professionalism and in accordance with the law,” FKF said.

The federation said it will work with relevant authorities and football stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

It also said it would pursue those found responsible for acts of violence or misconduct.

FKF said it will review available footage, match officials’ reports and accounts from other stakeholders as part of the investigations.

“We call on fans, security agencies and all football stakeholders to uphold discipline and ensure that football matches remain safe and welcoming spaces for everyone,” the federation said.

The incidents occurred after Tusker FC defeated Gor Mahia 3-1 to win the 2026 FKF Super Cup at Nyayo National Stadium.
