A Bomet University driver has died following a road accident at Katakala, Narok county, that also left four university staff members injured.
The university disclosed the incident in an official statement published on Tuesday, August 11, confirming that Charles Langat lost his life after sustaining injuries in the crash the previous evening.
What Happened at Katakala
Langat was at the wheel of a university vehicle ferrying staff to Nairobi for official duties when the accident occurred on the evening of Monday, August 10. He did not survive his injuries.
The four other occupants of the vehicle escaped with minor injuries and have since received treatment. According to the university, all four are now recovering at home.
"It is with deep sorrow that Bomet University announces the untimely death of Mr. Charles Langat, a driver at the University, following a tragic road accident yesterday evening, 10th August 2026, at Katakala, Narok County," the institution said in its statement.
The university paid tribute to Langat's service, noting that his dedication would be remembered by colleagues and the wider university community. Condolences were extended to his family, friends, and relatives.
Senator Sigei Offers Condolences
Bomet senator Wakili Hillary Sigei also responded to the news, mourning Langat's death and saluting his commitment to his work.
"I am deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely passing of Mr. Charles Langat, a dedicated driver at Bomet University, who lost his life in a road accident while on official duty," Sigei wrote.
The senator directed his condolences to Langat's family and the university community while wishing the four injured staff members a full and speedy recovery.
Bomet University was formally awarded its full university charter on February 6, at State House, Nairobi.
Before becoming a fully chartered university, it was Bomet University College, established as a constituent college of Moi University.
