- It is unclear how the bodies of a 20-year-old nursing student and a 26-year-old house help ended up in the well
- Blood-stained blankets were also discovered near the scene, raising more questions on the circumstances surrounding their deaths
Two women were reportedly found dead inside an open borehole, leaving the local community with deeply troubling questions about the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The victims have been named as Gladness Nambuka, a 20-year-old student at Kabwe School of Nursing, and Patricia Michelo, 26, who worked as a house help.
How the Discovery Unfolded
Their bodies were recovered from a well reported to be approximately six metres deep.
The alarm was first raised on the morning of the incident when a woman identified as Nice Chiyala returned home at around 9.30 am and noticed blankets tucked behind a poultry structure on the property.
Several of those blankets reportedly carried blood stains. Looking further, Chiyala observed more blankets inside the well.
Upon closer inspection, she made the disturbing discovery of the two women's bodies below. She immediately contacted her cousin, who then alerted the relevant authorities.
The Kabwe Municipal Council confirmed that the incident was formally reported at approximately 12:34 hours, after which the Kabwe Fire Brigade was dispatched to the scene.
Fire Brigade Called to Retrieve the Bodies
Rescue personnel successfully retrieved both bodies from the borehole and handed them over to the police, who assumed responsibility for the investigation and standard post-mortem procedures.
The cause and manner of the women's deaths had not been established at the time of the discovery.
Authorities had not indicated whether what occurred was accidental or involved other parties, and investigations were continuing.
The presence of blood-stained blankets has added weight to the unease gripping the community, as residents try to make sense of how two young women came to be found in such circumstances.
