Jose Chameleone's eldest son is facing legal trouble in the United States after police in Minnesota took him into custody on a domestic assault charge.
Abba Marcus Mayanja, 20, was arrested by the Edina Police Department on August 14, 2026, and booked into the Hennepin County Sheriff's facility.
He faces one count of misdemeanour domestic assault, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail, a fine of up to KSh 12,900, or both, if he is convicted.
The case is connected to an ongoing dispute involving his pregnant partner, Angelica Becker, known to her followers as Angel.
She had previously accused Marcus of physical abuse in May, allegations he denied at the time.
Was Chameleone's son released?
Marcus appeared before a judge on August 17, three days after his arrest. Although booking records had listed a cash bail option of between KSh 776,220 and KSh 1.3 million, the court granted him a conditional, non-cash release, allowing him to walk free without paying any cash amount.
The conditions attached to his release were not publicly detailed.
His next scheduled court appearance is October 8, 2026, at Ridgedale Court, where the case is expected to proceed further.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Angel reportedly expressed conflicted emotions in the wake of Marcus's release.
According to reports, she acknowledged that she still loves and misses him, even as the legal process continues. Marcus is the father of her unborn child.
Following the incident, Marcus addressed the situation on social media, acknowledging that he had made mistakes and was determined to improve.
“I’m learning from this, and I’m committed to doing better,” he said, while asking the public to respect their privacy.
It is important to note that the domestic assault allegation remains unproven, and Marcus has not been found guilty of any offence. He is presumed innocent as the case works its way through the courts.
Jose Chameleone, whose real name is Joseph Mayanja, is one of Uganda's most celebrated musicians, known across East Africa and beyond for his Afrobeat and dancehall sound spanning more than two decades.
