The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) has opened applications for five Master's scholarships in STEM, funded through a grant from the African Development Bank (AfDB) under the Kenyan government's Higher Education Science Technology Phase II project.
The scholarships are part of a broader initiative aimed at improving access to quality higher education, training and research in STEM fields to support inclusive economic growth and employment by 2030.
Who can apply and what is covered?
Eligible applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged below 30 years and must have graduated with at least a second-class honours (upper division) from a recognised and accredited university.
The scholarships are open to Kenyans aged below 30 who will also serve as graduate assistants. Applicants must also meet the requirement to be registered or eligible for registration with the relevant professional or regulatory body, where applicable," TUM stated in a notice in MyGov on Tuesday, August 11.
Each scholarship covers tuition fees and research costs for the full duration of study.
Upon completing a master's degree, scholars are expected to transition into a PhD programme under the same scholarship arrangement.
Available programmes and how to apply
TUM is offering five scholarships, with one available in each of the following fields: electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, building and civil engineering, marine engineering, and computer science.
The scholarship-funded programmes are expected to commence in August 2026.
All applications must be submitted through TUM's online portal.
The university will not accept email or hardcopy submissions under any circumstances.
Application letters should be addressed to the deputy vice chancellor (AFP), Technical University of Mombasa, P.O. Box 90420-80100.
The deadline for applications is August 18, 2026, and submissions received after that date will not be considered. Applicants are required to quote the relevant reference number in their application.
