"Wamebebwa akili": Charlene's fiancé hits at Kenyans, labels them ‘bongo lala’
This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.
- Isaya Yunge fired back at Kenyans who sided with a woman he labelled a stalker after she went viral claiming he had fathered her child
- The woman, whom Isaya compared to Billie Jean, crashed out after seeing his engagement pictures with Charlene Ruto and leaked their private chats
- Isaya dismissed his critics, saying they had 'bongo lala' and were fooled by good English rather than actual critical thinking
Charlene Ruto's fiancé, Isaya Yunge, came out swinging on his Instagram Stories, taking aim at Kenyans who he believes were too quick to believe a woman making wild claims about him online.
The drama started when a woman, whom Isaya has since labelled a stalker, appeared to spiral after he publicly announced his engagement to President William Ruto's daughter.
She leaked private conversations between herself and Isaya, and to pour fuel on the fire, shared photos of him cradling a baby, suggesting the child was his son.
The stalker claims unpacked
The truth behind those baby photos, however, tells a very different story. The infant Isaya was holding in the images is actually his nephew, not his child.
The woman in the pictures with the baby is his sister-in-law, a mzungu photographer who had been at a family gathering.
Despite this context being available, a section of Kenyans ran with the stalker's narrative.
Isaya labels critics 'bongo lala'
Isaya was clearly unbothered about mincing his words. In the story he posted, he tagged the verified accounts involved and went straight at his critics, writing that all they had going for them was polished English, nothing more.
"Hawa majirani wana kizungu kingi tu, ila ni bongo lala, wamechotwa akili na Billie Jean. English is not a measure of intelligence fr fr," he wrote, referencing the Michael Jackson song about a woman who falsely claimed a man had fathered her child.
The Billie Jean comparison was pointed. He was drawing a direct parallel between the fictional stalker in the classic song and the woman who had stirred up the controversy around him and Charlene.
He also shared a link giving further context to the situation, urging followers to think critically before jumping to conclusions.
The post was set to the song Safari by Paul Clement, and the story appeared to be taken at what looked like a safari location, with a Land Rover visible in the background, suggesting Isaya was unbothered and getting on with life amid the noise.
He later deleted the Instagram Stories but you can have a look:

The couple has since been navigating life in the spotlight, with this latest episode being one of several moments that have drawn strong reactions from Kenyans online.
