Unlock benefits: Saudi's 6 pathways for foreigners to get residency
International News · The Horizon Wire

This story has significance for readers across Kenya and beyond.

- Saudi Arabia's Premium Residency programme targets talents, professionals, investors, and entrepreneurs seeking to live in the Kingdom

- The programme offers six distinct residency products, including categories for gifted individuals, real estate owners, and entrepreneurs

- Holders enjoy wide-ranging benefits such as business ownership rights, real estate ownership, and exemption from expatriate fees

Saudi Arabia has established a Premium Residency programme designed to draw skilled professionals, investors, and entrepreneurs into the Kingdom, offering a structured pathway to long-term settlement with a range of economic and social privileges.

The programme operates across six distinct residency categories, each tailored to a specific profile of applicant, and grants holders a set of general benefits that apply regardless of which product they hold.

What Benefits Do Premium Residency Holders Receive?

All Premium Residency holders are entitled to extend the residency to their immediate family members, own real estate and conduct business within Saudi Arabia, and transfer between entities without incurring additional fees.

They are also exempt from the levies typically imposed on expatriates and their dependants, may travel in and out of the Kingdom without a visa, and are permitted to host and invite relatives.

The Six Premium Residency Categories

The Special Talent Residency is aimed at high-calibre professionals in scientific and healthcare sectors, researchers, and senior executives with demonstrated expertise.

The Gifted Residency targets individuals with exceptional abilities in sports, culture, and the arts, enabling them to contribute to Saudi Arabia's broader development agenda while integrating into local society.

The Investor Residency is built for those seeking to deploy capital within Saudi Arabia's expanding economy. A notable feature of this product is that applicants can directly obtain conditional permanent residency upon meeting the relevant investment requirements.

The Entrepreneur Residency caters to founders and innovators launching start-ups in the Kingdom.

Beyond the general benefits, entrepreneurs can nominate two staff members to receive Special Talent Residency status, bypassing the standard eligibility criteria.

They are also exempt from the Nitaqat workforce nationalisation programme during their first three years of operation. Those who create at least 10 jobs in the first year and a further 10 in the second year qualify to directly obtain conditional permanent residency.

The Real Estate Owner Residency is available to individuals who already hold property assets inside Saudi Arabia, providing a formal residency route tied to their existing investment in the country.

Finally, the programme offers both Limited Duration and Unlimited Duration Premium Residency options for those who wish to reside in Saudi Arabia for a defined or open-ended period, without necessarily qualifying under any of the more specialised categories above.

The breadth of the programme reflects Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts under its Vision 2030 reform agenda to position the Kingdom as a competitive destination for global talent and capital.
