- His family say the medical care he received was inadequate and are now facing a financial battle to bring him home
A 32-year-old British man who flew to Thailand to marry the woman he loved never made it to his wedding day, dying in his sleep just days before the ceremony was due to take place.
Kyle Campbell had travelled abroad to wed his fiancée, Kannika Masasai, with whom he had been in a relationship for two and a half years.
Sadly, what was supposed to be the beginning of a new chapter ended in devastating loss.
What happened to Kyle?
While in Thailand, Kyle was involved in a motorbike collision and suffered a significant head injury. He received treatment at a local hospital before being discharged.
However, in the early hours of July 30, at around 2.30 am, his family back in the United Kingdom received a phone call with the news that he had passed away in his sleep. They were also told that the medical care he had been given was "inadequate."
Kyle leaves behind a 12-year-old son who had been living with him, as well as his heartbroken fiancée and a wide circle of family and friends.
Kannika paid tribute to the man she was set to marry, saying:
"Death takes away the body, but love remains. Rest in peace, my love, and you will always be in my heart. I will keep you in my best memories forever, my love."
Family appeals for help to bring Kyle home
A family member named Dianne has since spoken publicly about the loss, describing it as a tragedy that has shattered everyone who knew Kyle.
She said the family now faces the enormous financial burden of repatriating his body to the UK so he can be "reunited with his family and laid to rest with the dignity and love he deserves."
"What should have been a joyful occasion ended in unimaginable heartbreak," Dianne said, adding that his death "has devastated everyone who knew and loved him."
A fundraising effort has been launched to cover the costs of repatriation, funeral expenses and other unexpected financial burdens that have followed the tragedy. Dianne asked those unable to donate to at least help by sharing the appeal widely.
"Any donation, no matter how small, will make an incredible difference and help ease the financial pressure on the family during this heartbreaking time," she said.
